Forum: GratefulDead Subject: A different take on your favs.- a stint?

I have always been a fan of listening to a series of shows in one venue. Love the variety of songs over several days- the mood of a particular night- the one song that stands out- etc... Anyone have a few night "stint" they'd like to recommend? Doesn't need to be in the same venue I suppose but a few nights in a row with good varitey and quality (obviously) to be the heavily weighed factors? While I'm thinking about mine- anyone have any thoughts?
Come on tour heads- lets hear it.......

If you're still interested I am a big fan of the Feb. '91 Chinese New Year's stand at Oakland Coliseum. The Sarlet>Fire on the second night is astonishing. The third night Playin' was the year's longest and there's a stunning Eyes out of Drumz. More and more. check it out.

The academy of music, March 1972. Not all are sbd--in fact the auds suck--but what the hell.

Also the Portchester run Feb 18-22, 1971---lots of firsts; recorded by Betty for SkullFuck.

Cal Expo '93. 5/25, 5/26, 5/27. Not the greatest stint of all time, but they do play 3 shows and don't repeat a song.
And this run of shows is definitely not to obvious.
Peace and enjoy.

Oh man! There's too many to mention. I'm going to try and stay away from anything too obvious like Fillmores 69,70,and71. ALL of the Winterlands but I think 12/77 and Oct 78 are the most underated of the Winterland runs.

There's just too many, so I'd actually have to think but I'll throw this one out - one of THE most under rated due to the year is the Oakland Oct 91 run right after Bill Graham died. Very strong run.

Scrubby: that's gonna be a huge list of options. Here's an entire tour: March 1990, east coast, was immense ... Just one subset that is noteworthy are the Albany Knickerbocker Arena shows: March 24, 25, and 26. --- AshesRising

Absolutely; the fifth is my fav; add in the October 12 and 13 shows of the prior year, and Avalon is really something. Then, CLIFF's listing for the two Boston runs, April and December, make for a nice, non Fillmore esque selection of shows for the two years...

Late October through December 1979. Almost each show is fantastic, with a few incredible standouts (Cape Cod 10/27 and Golden Hall 11/24 are my favorites, with Rochester 11/9 in there as well). Can't go wrong with these monsters.
